THIS PLACE MEAN

This Place Mean is a place for self-reflection for all: Photographer/Subject/Viewer/~. It is a place where we often wish to go back and often lack in ourselves. It is somewhere where our heads are, but our bodies cannot grasp at the moment. It is the past, and we hope it will be our future.

— I am a foreigner! I have something inside me that I do not have access to through the cognitive way, and thus this strangeness —which does not let me be familiar with myself— It is what opens the doors for the foreigner in me.

Through the use of Derrida’s deconstruction ideas, as well as Marx's photographer, subject, and audience can be seen and heard by each other, thereby creating perspectives and imagining solutions to shared futures.

This Place Mean is a transmedia community-focused project (photo, audio, and video). The project aims to find common ground between different experiences, projecting the perspective of people who feel displaced in the contemporary world. Photographer and subject are placed face-to-face in an informal interview conducted alternately by the photographer and the subject. The location, defined by the interviewee, features a white wall created by the artist, displayed both in video and photos, metaphorically raising questions about where these people belong in that environment. How do the subject and photographer understand the feeling of displacement in their lives?
